In some versions of the game, a pair of jacks is the minimum bet. Alternatively, the aces may be considered to be the lowest card. Likewise, the kicker is the highest-ranking card in the deck.
Ties are broken by secondary pairs, such as a straight flush. When a straight and a flush tie, the higher card wins. Two aces are a good hand, but they don’t beat a straight flush.
In a poker game, a player’s best hand may be a combination of the five cards dealt to them and the community cards. For instance, a three-of-a-kind hand might include three aces and two kings.
